Harry Potter locations in London

por Postcards from IvI

If you are a Harry Potter fan, there is no doubt that London is one of the most magical cities to visit. Several places in the city served as the setting to create the universe of the films, so in this post I am going to tell you about the best Harry Potter locations in London.

  • Harry Potter tour in London

If you prefer to tour the Harry Potter locations with a guide who will tell you all the details and curiosities, you can book this Harry Potter locations walking tour.

During the tour you will go through the different Harry Potter locations in London with a guide who will tell you anecdotes about the places that inspired J.K. Rowling.

Harry Potter locations in London

1. Platform 9 3/4

If there is a place that you cannot miss in London if you like Harry Potter, it is King’s Cross station, where the famous platform 9 3/4 is located.

Here you can take a photo with the cart on the wall as if you were crossing. There is usually a long line to take a photo so I recommend that you get there early. If you take the photo with your camera it is free and there is also the option of paying to have a more professional photo taken by the employees of the official Harry Potter store which is located right next to the cart.

2. Leadenhall Market

Leadenhall Market is one of the oldest markets in the city and a must-see for exploring London’s architecture. It is located in the historic center of the City of London and dates back to the 14th century.

Leadenhall Market was used in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to represent the Leaky Cauldron and Diagon Alley in the film. The market is beautiful and well worth a visit.

3. Millennium Bridge

Another very famous location that you can see from Harry Potter in London is the Millennium Bridge. It is a pedestrian suspension bridge that crosses the River Thames. Although it was used as a setting in several films in the saga, you will remember it from seeing it in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” where the death eaters destroy the bridge.

4. St Pancras Station

The facade of the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel appears in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” representing King’s Cross Station when Harry and Ron use the flying car to get to Hogwarts on time.

This façade forms part of the main façade of St Pancras station.

5. Piccadilly Circus

Piccadilly Circus is the location used in the film “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1”, when Harry, Ron and Hermione are attacked by death eaters during a wedding celebration and are teleported to Piccadilly Circus.

This location is in the heart of London and you will always see it full of people.

6. Warner Bros Harry Potter Studios

Near London are the Warner Bros Studios where the films were filmed. This is one of the most popular day trips from London. In the studios you can see the original settings and objects that were used in the films.

You can book this tour to the Harry Potter Studios which includes bus transportation to and from Warner Bros + entry ticket to the studios. You can also choose to go on your own combining a train and a bus (50 minute trip approximately).

7. Oxford

This location is not in London but I didn’t want to leave it out as it is one of the best day trips to do from London if you like Harry Potter. The famous university of Oxford was used as the setting and inspiration for many scenes in the saga. The Great Hall at Hogwarts was inspired by the dining hall at Christ Church, the largest college, and can be visited by the public.

I recommend taking this Harry Potter Oxford and Studios tour.

Those are the Harry Potter places to see in London! Of course there are many more Harry Potter locations in the city but these are the most representative ones to visit.
